Support Us With a Donation!

Dear McKinley families and community members,

Season’s greetings from McKinley Elementary School’s Parent Teacher Club (PTC). The PTC is grateful for the contributions and sacrifices you have made in this most unusual school year.

With the season of giving upon us, please consider making a one-time donation to support McKinley Elementary School. Money that is raised pays for teachers’ classroom supplies, books for the library, gym equipment and music materials.

Will you help the PTC meet its 2020-2021 fundraising goal of $8,000 by December 31, 2020?

With the economic downturn and COVID restrictions, the PTC ceased its major fundraising events which typically raise $20,000 each year. This direct ask fundraiser replaces our annual Fun Run, Read-a-thon, and movie ticket sales fundraising events.

Did you know that you can deduct up to $300 for charitable contributions in 2020?

The CARES Act instituted a provision allowing people to deduct $300 for charitable contributions. Taxpayers can take this universal deduction no matter whether they itemize or take the standard deduction on their taxes. Deductions under the CARES Act must be in cash (including checks and credit card payments). 1

Donations are easy with PayPal or by check:

Make checks payable to McKinley Parent Teacher Club and send to: McKinley Elementary School at 466 McGilchrist Ave SE, Salem, OR 97302.

The PTC will send you a receipt for your donation. Be sure to include your name and address when you make the payment. Thank you for supporting McKinley Elementary School!

1If a person is married and filing jointly, the deduction is still limited to $300. Because the CARES Act deduction is a universal above-the-line deduction, you can list your contribution as an adjustment to income on your taxes. In short, if you donate up to $300 in cash to a qualified organization, your adjusted gross income will be reduced up to $300. Another benefit is that you don’t need to include documentation when you file gifts $250 and under — just keep proof of cash receipts. Remember, all gifts exceeding $250 need to include the receipt or proper documentation when filing. If you have questions about deductible 2020 charitable donations, speak to a Certified Accountant or professional. https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/how-the-cares-act-changes-deducting-charitable-contributions
